Book Review for Eyewitness Sketch–Prohibition-Era Romantic Suspense
Experience Illustrative Reporting in 1931 Chicago through Eyewitness Sketch
In Book One of Danielle Grandinetti’s new Di Stasio Giornaliste Agency series [Amazon affiliate link], illustrative journalist Gabriella “Gabby” Salatino applies her artistic abilities to capture Chicago’s 1931 scenes—from fashion to breaking news. Everyone assumes her sketching role at the agency is the safe, glamorous position, until Gabby witnesses a murder. Suddenly danger stalks her through every street, forcing her to flee to the remote, fog-shrouded islands of Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula—her childhood home nicknamed “Death’s Door.”
Gabby has never been the bold, forceful type like her agency colleagues, but she’s tired of being protected. This murder marks the second time she has watched someone die at another’s hands. Refusing to sit on the sidelines, she creates an eyewitness sketch that could expose the killer, placing her squarely in the crosshairs once more. Whisked to safety with Deputy Andri Jóhannsson—the steadfast local lawman and the man she once walked away from—Gabby finds herself in forced proximity in his secluded home. Together with local allies and a loyal K9 companion, she combines her unique sketching talent with Andri’s investigation to unravel a ruthless Great Lakes smuggling ring tied to Prohibition bootlegging.
Eyewitness Sketch [Amazon affiliate link] is a great beginning for this new series that explores 1930s journalism. Delve into this historical suspense as Danielle Grandinetti continues to dig deeper into this decade’s past with a mystery flare.
What genre is Eyewitness Sketch?
This is a Christian historical romantic suspense. As usual, my favorite part is solving the crime alongside (and, when possible, ahead of) the characters.
