Book Review for Breath of Bones–Myths Come to Life
Ancient Prague had a guardian, and he’s back!
In Breath of Bones (Amazon affiliate link), Kateřina Dubová and Josef Loew each set out with a desire to stop what the Nazi regime is doing to their people. Although they’re separated by different heritages, they both design ways to stand against the onslaught of tyranny. Unfortunately, that path sets them on a collision course for destruction.
Set in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, the story follows determined journalist Kateřina as she pursues a major story to reveal the atrocities of the Nazis in Prague. Her path crosses with Josef Loew, a descendant of the famed Rabbi Loew who created the legendary golem centuries earlier. Together, they encounter a new guardian from ancient myth and enlist him to protect the innocent.
Blending history and sci-fi/fantasy, real events anchor the narrative, while steampunk touches such as clockwork gadgets and spider-like tanks add thrilling layers. The golem embodies both hope and peril, raising powerful questions about protection, revenge, and unintended consequences. As the golem’s creator intended him for annihilation, Kateřina and Josef must choose if they will continue that path or follow a life-saving one. No one can remain the same when touched by events like these.
