Book Review for Ring of Secrets—A Delightful Blend of Intrigue and Romance during the American Revolution
In Ring of Secrets (Amazon affiliate link), Roseanna M. White begins her Culper Ring Series during the American Revolution. In 1779, New York City was a hotbed of Loyalist sympathizers, but Patriots hid among them, seeking every opportunity to pass along valuable information to George Washington and the Continental Army. Among these spies, Winter Reeves walks a dangerous line because her grandparents support the Crown, but her loyalties lie with her father and his men fighting for freedom. She gathers information from the many Loyalist friends and neighbors her grandparents gather around them, and she passes it all to Patriots.
Everything Winter does gets complicated when Bennet Lane arrives searching for a wife. At least, that’s the guise he’s using to explain his sudden return to the city, and it lands him in the sights of Winter’s grandmother. Now, while he’s really trying to track down a Patriot spy, he finds himself beguiled by a lovely and intelligent woman hiding behind a facade of ignorance. When their pursuits intersect, both Bennet and Winter must choose between love and loyalty.
What genre is Ring of Secrets?
Ring of Secrets is a historical romance with amateur spies dabbling in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game set in New York. The romance is a sweet growth between two people who are on different sides of a war, as they seek the Lord and He leads them to each other. Roseanna adds twists and turns to keep you guessing all the way through the story.

The History Behind Ring of Secrets
Spy stories always capture my interest, and before I read Ring of Secrets, I learned about George Washington’s secret spy ring that gathered and ferried information from New York City to his command center. This secret group included a leader who only agreed to the job if his identity was never disclosed, and amazingly, that promise was kept. Only through continued sleuthing and some chance finds are we aware of the men in the Culper Spy Ring. Oddly enough, the identity of the woman known as Agent 355 remains a mystery. In George Washington’s Secret Six (affiliate link), Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger give an engaging account of this secret group and all they accomplished. The historical information is presented with the flare of a novel, which kept me reading all the way through. If you love history and want to dig deeper into the history behind Ring of Secrets, grab a copy of George Washington’s Secret Six to start.
