Book Review for The Blackout Murders– Amateur Sleuths on the English Homefront
Middle-Aged Detectives Protect Their Homes in The Blackout Murders
It’s 1941, and England is standing firm against the Nazi blitz that’s hammering London and other prominant cities throughout the British Isles. Most of the young men have gone to fight, and everyone at home joins forces to stand against the onslaught of their enemies. When a female air raid warden from London suffers a serverely damaged ankle from a cave in, she relocates to the seemingly quite village of Crofter’s Green, only to find that the local air raid warden—a cantakerous man that no one likes—is murdered on her first night there. Since the man crossed everyone that he met, the challenge will be weeding out who had reason to off the warden in order to find the single person who did.
The Blackout Murders (affiliate link) is told from five different characters’ perspectives: Evie, Harry, Dorothy, Blake, and Alice. Each has a unique view of village life, and that includes their personal contributions to solving the compounding murders in Crofter’s Green. From retired inspectors to codebreaking math teachers to all-around wise herbalists, these characters bring their plethora of skills to the table. Enjoy a cuppa while solving The Blackout Murders alongside this ragtag group.
What genre is The Blackout Murders?
This is a historical whodunit chasing the quality of Agatha Christie. Though mostly clean, it is written with some of the British phrasing that I don’t use. The words used are minimal and might not offend you at all. While I prefer completely clean language, I did enjoy this tale.
